“To myself I am only a child playing on the beach"

“I was like a boy playing on the sea-shore, and diverting myself now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me.” - Isaac Newton

I played with a kite all day at work during the day, yesterday. The wind was wild and unpredictable and inconsistent. I was, with hard work, and diligence able to keep the kite off the ground for a great deal of time on several occasions, nursing it through lulls in the wind and keeping it on course through violent outbursts. My greatest attempt, at which I made use of kiting, by pulling it back and forth against the still wind to keep it afloat during the lulls, kept it flying long enough to just barely let it out to the full length of the string, a whole half length of the parking lot away.

This was a small 6$ kite. It was so simple a design but so interesting that it made me seriously consider building a kite as a weekend project in the near future.
